Laax, January 10, 2023. "How to run a sustainable alpine destination" is the title of the new Greenstyle Book published by the Weisse Arena Group, operator of the LAAX winter sports resort. Protecting the environment and using natural resources sustainably have been among the company's most important goals for many years. The book summarizes projects, goals, and visions for the first time and is intended to serve as a guide to greater sustainability. The Greenstyle Book is now available in the LAAX app, at the Laax mountain railway information center, and at the Flims and Falera mountain railway ticket offices.
Since 2010, Greenstyle has stood for the Weisse Arena Group's sustainability concept. The tenth anniversary provided the impetus for the Greenstyle Book and the decision to share experiences and visions with employees, locals, second home owners, guests, and anyone else who is interested. The result is a book of over 250 pages full of projects, visualizations, and input. Reto Fry, environmental officer at the Weisse Arena Group, looks back on the work with great pleasure: "I put a lot of heart and soul into the project and am happy that I can now share the Greenstyle Book with others. But only the book is finished; the implementations on the mountain and in the valley are far from complete." The book was created by Reto Fry together with copywriter Tabea Ammann.
Energy, biodiversity, and much more
The Greenstyle Book highlights the topic of sustainability in an Alpine destination, namely Flims Laax Falera. It presents the idea of a destination where people can continue to enjoy their vacations with a clear conscience in the future. Among other things, the book includes chapters on energy, water, zero waste, consumption, and biodiversity. "I hope to see new solar panels on buildings, more electric vehicles, new wild bee-friendly gardens, and much more soon," says Reto Fry. The book is available online as a free PDF so that anyone interested can read it. The book is also available as a limited print edition of 5,000 copies in the LAAX app, at the mountain railway information desk in Laax, and at the mountain railway ticket offices in Flims and Falera for 20 Swiss francs. The proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the non-profit organization "Greenstyle Foundation," which supports charitable projects to protect the environment in the region. More information about the Greenstyle Foundation can be found here.
Greenstyle – a concept with clear ideas
The Weisse Arena Group pursued ambitious goals in tourism with regard to environmental protection and sustainability from an early stage. It set new standards in station construction and built the first hotel in Switzerland to meet the Minergie standard. Under the name "Greenstyle," a comprehensive sustainability concept was finally developed in 2010. Since then, numerous large and small measures have been implemented each year.
The Weisse Arena Group's grand vision is to use its sustainability concept to transform the entire Flims Laax Falera destination from an energy consumer to an energy producer. This will be achieved in collaboration with the municipalities, their residents and second home owners, as well as partners and guests. Where possible, the entire operation will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with no further use of fossil fuels. "Many challenges, such as the energy transition and the protection of biodiversity, can only be overcome by working together. The book aims to motivate, inspire, create transparency, and show a viable way forward," says Reto Fry.
