Only in LAAX: a skate park at 2,252 meters above sea level

Laax, August 25, 2020. Anyone who had to forego a seaside vacation this summer can still experience the thrill of surfing in the mountains of Graubünden. Specifically, on Crap Sogn Gion in LAAX, at around 2,252 meters above sea level. Where freestylers fly through the air in winter, like-minded people also get their money's worth in summer: right next to the mountain station is a leisure facility that can only be found in LAAX – the GALAAXY Park.

LAAX is freestyle through and through: spectacular jumps, tricks over rails and boxes, and plenty of adrenaline – here, freestyle means not only fun, but above all freedom and the desire for new challenges. Even in summer, this mountain destination in Graubünden upgrades its facilities every year. A unique offering has been created around GALAAXY, the mountain station on Crap Sogn Gion: the highest skate park in the Alps. Together with the Ninja Park, the parkour, a trampoline with airbags, and the pump track, this forms the GALAAXY Park. Guests to the destination can therefore enjoy freestyle and action not only during the cold months.

Ramps, rails, and clean air

Breathe in the fresh mountain air as you glide over waves, ramps, and rails on wheels: around 12 obstacles are waiting to be shredded in the new skate park at 2,252 meters above sea level. Whether you're on a skateboard or a scooter, fun is guaranteed, and all against a picturesque mountain backdrop. The mobile pump track right next door offers fewer tricks and more flow. On sunny days, you'll work up quite a sweat here, because only those who keep moving will maintain enough momentum to stay on the track. Those who prefer to travel on foot can head to Ninja Park, where there are eight obstacles to overcome – just like Ninja Warrior. No less acrobatic, but all the more carefree, is the large trampoline, with airbags for a safe landing. www.galaaxylaax.com/de/freestyle-park/

Freestyle – no longer just for the young and wild

It quickly becomes clear in LAAX that freestyle is not a question of age, but rather of attitude: at the rocksresort PARK near the valley station in Laax Murschetg, toddlers and their parents whizz over asphalt waves just like experienced skaters. The Freestyle Academy is also located in Laax Murschetg. For around 10 years, it has been a popular indoor playground for young and old alike: whether as a rainy-day alternative for holidaymakers, a training base for professional athletes, or a leisure activity for locals.

On the mountain, however, there hasn't been much freestyle action so far this summer. The gondola to Crap Sogn Gion was mainly filled with bikers looking for action on the Never End Trail. This was set to change with the construction of the GALAAXY Park. By the end of summer 2019, the first elements were ready to be tested at the mountain station. The offer was well received, and so the decision was made to expand the leisure facility.

The builders always kept one thing in mind: freestyle is for everyone! "Our goal with GALAAXY Park was to make the freestyle feeling possible even in summer. The park is perfectly tailored to the needs of kids and also motivates parents to join in," says Reto Poltéra, head of sports and leisure at LAAX. Ivan Capaul, operations manager of GALAAXY Park and the Freestyle Academy, adds: "Similar to the Freestyle Academy, there is something cool and suitable for all ages – just outside and at an altitude of 2,252 meters!"

GALAAXY Park is open until October 25, 2020, during the operating hours of the Crap Sogn Gion cable car and in good weather. In bad weather, the park is accessible but without supervision, oversight, or rental services. The current status of GALAAXY Park can be found on the live page .
