Laax, January 11, 2022. The LAAX OPEN 2022 is ready to go. The best freestyle snowboarders from around the world will take center stage for the last FIS Snowboard World Cup before the Winter Olympics. From January 11 to 15, 180 snowboarders will be in the spotlight at Europe's most prestigious snowboard contest. Men and women will compete equally for a total of CHF 140,000 in prize money in slopestyle and superpipe.
After the preliminary rounds, the final highlight day on Saturday, January 15, 2022, will bring two decisions. At noon in slopestyle and in the evening under floodlights, the highlight of the week will be the night final in the halfpipe at Crap Sogn Gion at 2,252 meters above sea level. Who will prevail and claim the prestigious titles? Will Olympic champions Anna Gasser (AUT) and Chloe Kim (USA) make it to the final? Or will it be the young wild ones led by Leon Vockensperger (GER)? What about LAAX Open title defenders Yuto Totsuka (JPN) and Niklas Mattson (SWE)? Scotty James (AUS), Jan Scherrer (SUI), Ayumu Hirano (JPN), Katie Ormerod (GBR), Jiayu Liu (CHN), Annika Morgan (GER), Queralt Castellet (SPA), and Andre Höflich (GER) are all among the top favorites for the World Cup decisions in LAAX.
COVID-19 continues to impact the event this year. For everyone's safety, a protection concept has been put in place that involves athletes, staff, and guests.
You can follow the LAAX Open on LAAX social media channels. The finals will be broadcast on Red Bull TV, at laax.com/open, and on television.
