Women's Freestyle – 50 professional riders showed today what that means. Progressive, technically demanding, and at the same time it looks so easy when they fly over the kickers. All eyes were on the slopestyle course for the women's snowboard and freeski semi-finals. It's a first to have the world's best female freestylers gathered here at the start, as this is the first time the ladies on two boards are competing in the FIS World Cup at Crap Sogn Gion. They all rocked the massive kickers and rail features.
Freeski Slopestyle Semi-Finals Women
In the freeski competition, the favorites made it to Sunday's final, including Swiss Olympic champions Sarah Höfflin (2nd) and Mathilde Gremaud (4th/SUI). Mathilde is full of praise for LAAX: "Mega smooth kickers. We're always in Laax with the team and we love it! They've really done a great job." Awaiting them in the finals are world champion Tess Ledeux (3rd/FRA) and Kirsty Muir (6th/GBR) as well as Johanne Killi (NOR), among others. Johanne was the most convincing and earned the top score of the day. Incidentally, she was already at the top of the podium here in LAAX at the European Freeski Open in 2014: "It's so nice to be back in LAAX."
Women's Snowboard Slopestyle Semi-Finals
The next generation is coming through: young Mia Brookes (GBR), who celebrated her 16th birthday here in LAAX, caused a sensation and advanced to Saturday's grand final as the semi-final winner in her first World Cup season. With incredible style from top to bottom and crazy tricks on the rails: "I've been following the LAAX OPEN for years, I'm so happy to finally be able to ride here myself with all my idols like Anna and Zoi." In the final of the best eight, she will face, among others, overall World Cup leader Reira Iwabuchi (4th/JPN) and Olympic champions Anna Gasser (2nd/AUT) and Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (3rd/NZL).
The slopestyle finals will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2023 (snowboard), and Sunday, January 22, 2023 (freeski), both at 1:15 p.m.
