Laax, December 2, 2022. The LAAX OPEN will take place from January 18 to 22, 2023. The world-renowned freestyle event now also includes freeskiing. The traditional Snowboard World Cup in slopestyle and halfpipe will be joined by the Freeski World Cup in slopestyle. One of the world's best freeskiers is particularly excited to finally show off his skills at the high-profile international contest in his home resort of LAAX: world champion Andri Ragettli.
Of the 250 women and men planning to compete in the LAAX OPEN 2023, several stand out in advance: first and foremost, the 2022 Olympic champions, snowboard halfpipe Ayumu Hirano (JAP), snowboard big air Anna Gasser (AUT), freeski slopestyle Mathilde Gremaud (SUI), freeski slopestyle Alex Hall (USA), and freeski big air Birk Ruud (NOR).
The sporting highlight of the LAAX OPEN 2023 will be the finals around the GALAAXY at Crap Sogn Gion on the weekend of January 21-22, 2023. The best riders from the preliminary rounds will then compete for the coveted LAAX OPEN titles, trophies, and $165,000 in prize money. Live acts, DJ parties, and a photo exhibition are also part of the freestyle festival.
Many professional riders name the LAAX OPEN as their favorite stop on the FIS World Cup Tour. In addition to the perfect setup, the reason lies in the overall experience: LAAX has always been a place where freestyle is lived and breathed. Freestyle is for everyone. For example, the 200-meter-long superpipe is permanently groomed throughout the winter and is open to everyone, as are the various snow parks. So it's quite possible that an idol and a fan will ride up the mountain together on the same chairlift or perform tricks on the same features of the P60 freestyle slope down into the valley.
LAAX has just been named "World's Best Freestyle Resort." For the seventh time in a row, and as the only resort since the award was established, this Oscar of the tourism industry went to LAAX. What makes it particularly valuable is that it is an award chosen by a jury of experts and the public. This is already setting the mood for the freestyle highlight LAAX OPEN 2023 in the snow parks and on the slopes of the Flims Laax Falera destination.
