Flying high at Crap Sogn Gion Julia Marino and Liam Brearley claim LAAX OPEN 2024 victories in snowboard slopestyle

A bright blue sky, white mountains in a 360° panorama, thousands of fans and winter sports enthusiasts, and a perfectly groomed slopestyle course – the impressive backdrop at Crap Sogn Gion above Laax is the perfect setting for the snowboard pros to show off their skills. The 20 finalists show off their progressive runs at this first FIS Snowboard World Cup of the season. Tricks such as Cab Double 9 on the Shark Fins, Back to back 1620 on kickers, Backside 5 in the Quarter – breathtaking, skyward, simply stylish.

The seven features were mastered best by US rider Julia Marino, who also won the LAAX OPEN in 2020. Annika Morgan from Germany came in second, achieving her best World Cup result: "I can't believe it! It was totally crazy for me, I was really excited. It's unbelievable that it ended up being my best slopestyle result." Third place went to Anna Gasser, two-time Olympic champion in Big Air. None of the three are newcomers to the LAAX OPEN podium.

But the men's podium certainly did: Canadian Liam Brearley received the highest score of the day, 89.93 points. This earned him his first LAAX OPEN title and put him in the illustrious footsteps of his compatriots Mark McMorris, Seb Toutant, and Max Parrot. Second and third place went to Ryoma Kimata (JPN) and Cameron Spalding (CAN).

Highly touted teenagers Kokomo Murase (JPN) and Mia Brookes (GBR) finish the LAAX OPEN 2024 in 5th and 8th place, respectively.
