A piece of Africa in LAAX: musician Dodo heralds the end of the season with a big concert

Laax, March 30, 2023. Even if the current weather forecast doesn't suggest it, winter is slowly coming to an end. But that's no reason to be sad in LAAX. Here, the closing weekend on April 15 and 16, 2023, will be celebrated in style once again. One of the highlights: on Saturday, April 15, 2023, Dodo & Friends will ring in spring in the Graubünden mountain destination with their show "AfriLAAX." The show is inspired by his trip to Africa, where he went in search of his roots.

With his shipping container converted into a recording studio, "Ministry of Good Vibes," Dodo will be anchoring in Falera, above LAAX, from now until the end of summer 2023. The Grisons mountains serve as a unique backdrop and temporary home for Dodo. Various concerts, film and music recordings are planned. Dodo will celebrate his arrival with the "AfriLAAX" concert on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the rocksresort in Laax. He will be joined by his musical friends, whom he met on his trip to Africa: Sir Jermaine & Makhalanjalo (South Africa), Wiyaala (Ghana), Jimmy James (Ivory Coast), Niashun (Ghana), and Horst Wegener (Germany). The concert starts at 8:00 p.m. and admission is free. Anyone who would like to support Dodo and his friends can make a donation to the collection.

Why Africa?

Dodo has always produced music for Swiss artists and is a musician himself. He has recorded a lot of music and shot video clips in South Africa – such as the video for his famous song "Hippie Bus." What few people know, however, is that Dodo was born in Kenya and spent the first six years of his life growing up in Ivory Coast. Then his family had to return to Switzerland unexpectedly. Dodo has never been back to the Ivory Coast since. Those early years in Africa shaped the artist's life, look, and music. It was clear that one day he would want to return to his old home.

Eleven tons across the Swiss passes and on to Africa

With his "Ministry of Good Vibes," he wanted to travel to Africa by water in 2020 and trace his roots. These plans were abruptly halted by the coronavirus pandemic. So instead of crossing the oceans, he ended up crossing the Swiss mountain passes with his eleven-ton, twelve-meter-long, and three-meter-high container. Last fall, the time had finally come: Dodo's dream—the great African adventure—could be realized. He shipped his container on the Rhine from Basel to Rotterdam and on to Africa. Along the way, he composed songs and collaborated on exciting musical projects. Now Dodo is celebrating a grand reunion and returning with his container to Switzerland, to Falera near LAAX. In addition to new songs, he also has musical companions from his journey in his luggage. Dodo has always felt a strong connection to LAAX, the European mecca of freestyle. As a passionate snowboarder, he is drawn back here time and again.
