Laax, January 15, 2022. What a finale to the LAAX OPEN 2022! The absolute highlight of the week is the night final in the superpipe under floodlights at Crap Sogn Gion. A truly magical atmosphere after sunset at 2,252 meters above sea level, combined with sensational riding and enthusiastic fans.
She did it again! Last year's winner Chloe Kim (USA) once again stood on the top step of the podium at the Superpipe night final of the last FIS World Cup before the Winter Olympics, making her a four-time LAAX winner. She secured her victory with her first run, which none of her competitors could beat. Mitsuki Ono (JPN) finished in second place, with Spain's Queralt Castellet completing the podium in third.
Ayumu Hirano dominated the men's competition in commanding fashion. Nine years after his last victory here in LAAX, the Japanese athlete, who also competed in skateboarding at the 2021 Summer Olympics, took home the win. Jan Scherrer, multiple fourth-place finisher at the LAAX OPEN, finally made it onto the podium at Crap Sogn Gion with an incredible second run. Third place went to three-time Olympic champion Shaun White, who thus completes his medal set at the OPEN Contests in LAAX: gold in slopestyle in 2008, silver in halfpipe in 2009, and bronze in halfpipe in 2022.
