Clothing Repair Service – repair instead of throwing away

Worn, loved, and now saved: The free Cloth Repair project took place once again at the Riders Hotel, supported by the Greenstyle Foundation. The aim of the initiative is to give damaged clothing a second—or even third—life.

What makes this special is that the service is free for everyone. A team of seamstresses set up their own small workshop in the hotel, equipped with everything needed to repair a wide variety of garments.

A total of 157 items of clothing were repaired and thus saved from the trash can. Particularly common at the sewing station: winter sports clothing, which accounted for 67% of the items repaired. No wonder, as this type of clothing is exposed to heavy wear and tear. All the better if it can be used for another season instead of being thrown away.

A look at the repair record:

  • 13 meters of torn seams were re-stitched and resealed to be waterproof, which is important for protection and functionality.
  • Two stuffed animals received a new leg, two ears, an eye, and fresh stuffing.
  • 22 Velcro fasteners were replaced or newly sewn on.
  • 67 badges were sewn on, ironed on, or glued on—small details with a big impact.
  • Three pairs of snowboard boots were repaired and prepared for another season.
  • Six new garments and backpacks with manufacturing defects were reworked and thus saved from disposal.
  • 14 zipper sliders were replaced, a common defect that can be quickly remedied.

And, of course, it remains the classic repair: the right pocket of ski pants. As in previous years, this was once again the most frequently repaired part of winter sports clothing—an amusing detail that shows just how much wear and tear clothing is subjected to when snowboarding and skiing.
