My spring in the mountains: The best tips from employees of the Weisse Arena Gruppe

The snow-covered peaks still shine in the sun. In the valley, however, it is getting greener every day, the flowers are growing and nature is coming to life. Many people are drawn out into the forest, to the lake and onto trails. Employees from different departments of the Weisse Arena Gruppe have told us where they prefer to spend spring.

Walk to Crap Signina

Philipp Ruggli, Photographer

You often see him with his camera: Philipp Ruggli works as a photographer for the Weisse Arena Gruppe. He captures beautiful moments on the mountain and of people in action with his camera. When he’s not taking pictures, he likes to go hiking. In spring, he loves to walk from Laax to the Crap Signina viewing platform and from there through the Val da Mulin to the Rhine Gorge. In the early morning hours he watches the wild animals in the forest. Insider tip: Visit the station café in Valendas. You can also reach it easily by public transport.

Biking on the Runca Trail

Senta Gautschi, Ski Patrol

Senta Gautschi is part of the Ski Patrol in winter, where she puts her heart and blood into her work. In summer, she is a self-employed coach and also works part-time for WAG. In spring, Senta can often be seen with her mountainbike on the Runca Trail or in the Flims forest. One way to reach the Runca Trail is to pedal up from Flims Waldhaus. She loves it because it’s quieter at that time and there are fewer people. She also enjoys the springtime at Lake Cauma and recharges her batteries there.

Biking through the Flimserwald

Ursin Saluz, Digital Project Manager

Ursin Saluz works for the digital guest experience team and, as project manager, tinkers with the further development of the LAAX app. He usually is one of the first on the mountain on powder days in winter, and in summer he ensures regular «lunch laps» on the LAAX bike trails. In spring, he loves to ride his gravel bike on his way home via Valendas, Trin Station or Tamins. No matter if it rains or not, he loves to be in the Flims forest. Favourite photo subject: The Rhine Gorge and the Signina Group.

Skating at the Prau la Selva sports centre

Cedi Romanens, Freestyle Academy Coach

Cedi Romanens has brought the French to LAAX. Among other things, he works as a coach at the Freestyle Academy. His biggest passion is skating. In spring, Cedi and his buddies from the «Schetg Gru» can be found in the Prau la Selva sport centre at the outdoor skate park. He loves to try out new tricks during a relaxed session and have fun with the crew.

Walk to Fidaz

Judith Kuiper, Sales Manager Benelux

She has only been a member of the LAAX crew since December, but she has known the destination for over ten years. Judith Kuiper decided to move to Flims with her husband during the Corona pandemic. Since then, she has already explored every corner of the area, either by bike or on foot. She loves to take a walk in the evening to Fidaz on to Scheia and back to Flims. For her it is a real blessing to live the mountain life in Flims.

Walk to Lake Cauma

Corsin Clopath, Head of Piste and Ski Patrol

Corsin Clopath’s dogs, Lio and Yari, are the two best-known four-legged friends in the Weisse Arena Gruppe. Probably in the entire destination. Corsin is head of the piste and ski patrol team and is outside a lot in winter. In spring, when it’s quieter on the mountain and greener in the valley, he likes to walk to Lake Cresta with Lio and Yari. At this beautiful place, a photo shoot is a must. And every now and then it’s enough for a jump into the lake.

Skating at the Freestyle Academy

Elisa Plankensteiner, Piazza – cafedeli

She makes beautiful cappuccino creations: Elisa Plankentseiner works at Piazza – cafedeli and greets guests and staff with a friendly smile every day. In spring, the Austrian likes to visit her family in the Ötztal. In her free time, she sometimes skates at the Freestyle Academy. In Falera she can also be seen from time to time on the mini-ramp by the car park.

Biking to Lake Cauma or to the «il Spir»

Tom Sielaff, Lake Cauma Gastronomy

He is the new face behind the counter at the restaurant at Lake Cauma: Tom Sielaff is the restaurant’s new operations manager. In spring, he likes to go biking – preferably on the paths that lead up to Lake Cauma. These are perfect to prepare for the summer season, he says. When he wants to take it easy, he heads towards Conn to the «il Spir» viewing platform. He likes to end the bike trip with a barbecue.

Trail running in Bargis

Daniela Wüthrich, Hotel Marketing

Daniela Wüthrich works in hotel marketing at the Weisse Arena Gruppe. She is from Zurich and moved to Ilanz because of her love of outdoor sports. In spring, Daniela is often seen with her running shoes: She loves to be on trails between Flims and Bargis or in the Ruinaulta. She is rewarded by the fresh air, the great mountain panorama and the feeling of pure freedom.

Barbecue on the balcony

Gian Reto Deflorin, Infrastructure

Gian Reto Deflorin works for the infrastructure department and is responsible for the maintenance of the houses on the mountain. He lives in Rodels and often spends his free time outside the destination of Flims Laax Falera. What he likes most about spring are the temperatures – because then it’s not too hot and not too cold, but «just right». However, one of his favourite springtime activities is barbecuing, namely when it is barbecue weather.
