Construction work on the FlemXpress, the new railway line to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona near Flims, is in full swing. You can follow the progress via a video construction diary. The latest episode of the FlemXpress construction diary is dedicated entirely to the railway cable. This is a so-called Performa cable, which is manufactured by the Fatzer company in Romanshorn.
The cable reduces vibrations and thus has a protective effect on the masts. It is also low-noise and saves energy. This means it meets the high requirements, as Curdin Caprez, Head of Mountain Railways/Infrastructure Projects at the Weisse Arena Group, explains. Matthias Stacher, Technical Sales Director at Fatzer, explains the exact functionality of the Performa rope and provides an exciting insight into rope splicing, a technique in which the ends of the rope are woven together.
