My mountain spring: the best tips from employees of the Weisse Arena Group

The snow-covered peaks still glisten in the sun. But down in the valley, it's getting greener every day, flowers are blooming, and nature is coming back to life. Many people are drawn to the forest, the lake, and the trails. Various employees from different departments of the Weisse Arena Group have shared their mountain spring tips and told us where they most like to spend the spring.

Walk to Crap Signina

Philipp Ruggli, photographer

He is often seen with his camera: Philipp Ruggli works as a photographer for the Weisse Arena Group. He captures beautiful moments on the mountain and people in action with his camera. When he is not taking photos, he enjoys hiking. In spring, he loves to walk from Laax to the Crap Signina viewing platform and from there through the Val da Mulin to the Rhine Gorge. In the early hours of the morning, he observes the wild animals in the forest. Insider tip: Visit the Bahnhofs-Café in Valendas. It is also easily accessible by public transport.

Biking on the Runca Trail

Senta Gautschi, patrol officer

Senta Gautschi works as a ski patrol officer in winter and puts her heart and soul into her work. In summer, she works as a freelance coach and also works part-time for WAG. In spring, Senta can often be seen riding her bike on the Runca Trail or in the Flims forest. One way to reach the Runca Trail is to cycle uphill from Flims Waldhaus. She loves it because it is still quiet at this time of year and there are fewer people around. She also enjoys springtime at Lake Cauma, where she recharges her batteries.

Biking through the Flims Forest

Ursin Saluz, Digital Project Manager

Ursin Saluz works with the DGX team and, as a project manager, is involved in the further development of the LAAX app. In winter, the Rheintal native is usually one of the first on the mountain on powder days, while in summer he makes sure to get in regular "lunch laps" on the LAAX bike trails. In spring, he loves to ride his gravel bike to Valendas, Trin Bahnhof, or Tamins on his way home. Rain or shine, he enjoys being in the Flims forest. His favorite photo subject: the Rhine Gorge and the Signina group.

Skating at the Prau la Selva sports center

Cedi Romanens, Coach at Freestyle Academy

Cedi Romanens brought "Welsch" to LAAX. Among other things, he works as a coach at the Freestyle Academy. His greatest passion is skating. In spring, you can find Cedi and his friends from the "Schetg Gru" at the outdoor skate park in the Prau la Selva sports center. He loves trying out new tricks during a relaxed session and having fun with the crew.

Walk to Fidaz

Judith Kuiper, Sales Manager Benelux

She only joined the LAAX crew in December, but she has known the destination for over ten years. Judith Kuiper decided to move to Flims with her husband during the coronavirus pandemic. She has now explored every corner of the area, either by bike or on foot. She loves to take an evening stroll to Fidaz and via Scheia to Flims. For her, as a "flatlander from Holland," living the mountain life in Flims is a real blessing.

Walk to Cresta Lake

Corsin Clopath, Head of Slope and Rescue Services

Corsin Clopath's dogs, Lio and Yari, are the two most famous four-legged friends within the Weisse Arena Group – and probably even in the entire destination. Corsin is head of the piste and rescue team and spends a lot of time outdoors in winter. In spring, when it's quieter on the mountain and the valley turns green, he likes to walk with Lio and Yari to Lake Cresta. A photo shoot is a must at this beautiful location. And every now and then, there's even time for a dip in the lake.

Skating at the Freestyle Academy

Elisa Plankensteiner, Piazza – cafedeli

She makes wonderful cappuccino creations: Elisa Plankentseiner works at Piazza – cafedeli and greets guests and colleagues every day with a friendly smile. In spring, the Austrian likes to visit her family in Ötztal. In her free time, she sometimes goes skating at the Freestyle Academy. She can also be seen from time to time on the mini ramp at the parking lot in Falera.

Cycling to Lake Cauma or to "il Spir"

Tom Sielaff, Caumasee Restaurant

He is the new face behind the counter at the restaurant on Lake Cauma: Tom Sielaff is the restaurant's new manager. In spring, he enjoys biking—preferably on the trails that lead to Lake Cauma. These are perfect for preparing for the summer season. When he wants to take it easy, he heads towards Conn to the "il Spir" viewing platform. He likes to round off his bike trip with a barbecue.

Trail running in Bargis

Daniela Wüthrich, Marketing

Daniela Wüthrich works in hotel marketing at the Weisse Arena Group. Her love of outdoor sports led the Zurich native to move to Ilanz. In spring, Daniela can often be seen wearing her running shoes: she loves running on the trails between Flims and Bargis or in the Ruinaulta. She is rewarded with fresh air, stunning mountain views, and a feeling of pure freedom.

Barbecuing on the balcony

Gian Reto Deflorin, Infrastructure

Gian Reto Deflorin works in infrastructure and is responsible for maintaining the houses on the mountain. He lives in Rodels and often spends his free time outside the Flims Laax Falera destination. What he likes most about spring is the temperature—because it's not too hot and not too cold, but "just right." However, firing up the grill is one of his favorite springtime activities, especially when the weather is perfect for barbecuing.
