Spotlight on the world's best halfpipe riders Snowboarders Mitsuki Ono and Scotty James are the LAAX OPEN 2024 Halfpipe Champions

Over 15,000 spectators make their way to Crap Sogn Gion for the legendary halfpipe night final and celebrate the 20 finalists of the LAAX OPEN 2024. The 200-meter-long superpipe looks majestic under the floodlights, lined from top to bottom with enthusiastic fans. Who will be crowned the 2024 champion?

The Asian riders unleash a fireworks display of rotations: endless 10s, 12s, and 14s combos. However, the hero of the evening is once again Scotty James, following on from 2019 and 2020. With one of the most stylish halfpipe runs ever, the Australian thrills the crowds and scores 94 points: "I'm thrilled and just so proud. Everyone is riding so well and there's little room for error. Your run has to be perfect to finish at the top. The young guys are showing off crazy tricks and keeping me on my toes. It's even cooler that I can still show them something." Valentino Guseli (AUS), who is celebrated like a local in Laax, takes second place, representing the next generation. He makes a world premiere with a frontside 1620 on the last hit. Japan's Ruka Hirano completes the podium in third place.

In the women's competition, last year's winner Mitsuki Ono from Japan wins with 81.75 points ahead of the young American Bea Kim and Ruki Tomita (JPN). Two-time Olympic champion Chloe Kim slips up in both runs and finishes the LAAX OPEN 2024 in fourth place.

The starry evening of January 20, 2024, at the LAAX OPEN 2024 made history with its top quality: for the audience as well as for the organizers and riders. All LAAX OPEN 2024 FIS Snowboard World Cup results can be found here: https://open.laax.com/results
