Laax, November 24, 2019. A successful fall is coming to an end: Last night in Kitzbühel, LAAX was named World's Best Freestyle Resort for the fourth time in a row at the World Ski Awards. At the end of October, LAAX secured the Swiss Mountain Award from Swiss Cableways with its destination-specific INSIDE LAAX app. Award from Swiss Cableways. The destination also impressed in terms of sustainability, winning the national environmental award Prix-Metallrecycling from Swiss Recycling at the beginning of autumn.
It's not just the successful start to the season that gives the LAAX ski resort cause for celebration this weekend: on Saturday night, the destination won the World's Best Freestyle Resort category at this year's World Ski Awards for the fourth time in a row. It also secured top three places in the Switzerland's Best Ski Resort and World's Best Green Ski Hotel categories.
Every year, the World Ski Awards select the best ski resorts in the world based on votes from the public and a jury. The event is part of the World Travel Awards, also known as the "Oscars of the travel industry." LAAX has already won several awards at the ceremony in Kitzbühel in previous years.
But the destination isn't just impressive in the area of freestyle – in the age of digitalization, LAAX continues to prove itself as a future shaper in the mountain railway industry. At the end of October, the innovative, destination-specific INSIDE LAAX app was honored with the Swiss Mountain Award by Seilbahnen Schweiz. Seilbahnen Schweiz presents this award every two years to recognize outstanding achievements in the cable car industry.
LAAX is also setting standards in terms of sustainability, as protecting the environment and using natural resources sustainably have been among the most important goals of the Weisse Arena Group, the operator of the LAAX ski resort, for many years. With its specially developed Greenstyle sustainability concept, the destination has been implementing projects on the mountain and in the valley since 2010 to conserve natural resources and promote environmentally friendly tourism. This includes around 100 recycling stations in the destination, for which the Weisse Arena Group was awarded the national Swiss Recycling Metal Recycling Prize in September.
