Laax, October 29, 2020. On Saturday, October 31, 2020, LAAX will kick off the 2020/21 winter season with the opening of the Vorab glacier. Conditions are challenging for safe yet carefree winter sports experiences. That is why LAAX has developed a comprehensive package of measures to protect all guests, employees, and locals.
LAAX is continuing to develop its digital offering in order to overcome the challenges of this winter and provide its guests with an unforgettable mountain experience. The winter sports resort is also enforcing a comprehensive requirement to wear face masks. A new catering concept is also designed to ensure sufficient distancing and safety at lunchtime, away from the slopes. These measures will be implemented for the first time this weekend during the limited opening.
Full-day and half-day tickets now only available online
Even after the opening weekend, LAAX reserves the right to limit the number of guests in the winter sports area if the situation requires it. For this reason, LAAX now only offers day and half-day tickets for purchase via the INSIDE LAAX app and in the web shop. Thanks to this digital solution, winter sports enthusiasts not only get to the mountain faster, but also more safely, as contact points are reduced to a minimum. Multi-day tickets are still available offline, but it is recommended that these also be purchased contactlessly and securely via the app or web shop.
Face covering required throughout the winter sports area
The comprehensive protection concept in LAAX includes a comprehensive requirement to cover the mouth and nose with community masks. This applies both indoors and in all queuing and transport situations. LAAX has deliberately opted for this uniform regulation, which ultimately allows guests to move freely within the area. The protection concept also provides for the opening hours of the mountain railways to be extended when there is a large number of guests. This ensures the best possible distribution on the mountain.
New digitally based catering concept
LAAX is also relying on digital solutions in its restaurants to offer guests safety, convenience, and variety all in one. In the largest self-service restaurants – Vorab, Nagens, and GALAAXY – the previous self-service concept has been replaced by a new one: guests order their food via the INSIDE LAAX app or at ordering terminals. There is no need to queue in front of buffets, and food is served directly at the table. There is no shortage of culinary variety: there are vegetarian and vegan options, and guests with allergies are also catered for with appropriate menus. In addition, the Q-Alert system, which shows users of the INSIDE LAAX app the number of guests at the respective lifts in real time, is also being introduced in the three restaurants mentioned above. This allows guests to see how many people are currently in the restaurant.
"Thanks to these well-thought-out measures, we are confident that we can offer our guests a safe and high-quality snow sports experience," says Markus Wolf, CEO of the Weisse Arena Group, about the upcoming winter season.

This is how limited opening works on weekends:
To offer guests the best possible experience on the mountain during the opening weekend, LAAX is limiting the number of admissions to the area to 1,200. Only those who already have a valid season pass and reserve a place free of charge via the INSIDE LAAX app will be allowed on the mountain – first come, first served. No additional day tickets will be sold and the mountain railway ticket offices will remain closed. For snowboarders and skiers, slopes 32 and 33 on the Vorab glacier will be open on Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, 2020. There will also be a small park available for freestylers. The cable car service will start at 8:30 a.m. from the Laax valley station. For hikers, the Flims–Foppa chairlift will also be in operation from 9:00 a.m. The bike trails are closed.
