Freestyle Academy LAAX is relocating

Laax, March 24, 2022. After almost 12 successful years, the legendary Freestyle Academy LAAX will close its doors on Sunday, March 27, 2022, be demolished, and completely rebuilt by spring 2024. As a temporary measure, the freestyle hall at the Prau la Selva sports center in Flims will be set up in a huge tent belonging to the Knie Circus.

This coming Sunday, March 27, 2022, the popular Freestyle Academy LAAX will close its doors. The former tennis hall in Laax Murschetg, which was built in the 1970s, has been home to the Freestyle Academy for almost 12 years. Now, the hall, which is in need of renovation, is to be demolished for good, as its construction no longer meets the ecological values of the Weisse Arena Group, to which the Freestyle Academy belongs. By spring 2024, a brand-new hall will be built on the same site, but in the basement – even bigger and even more action-packed.

New location in Prau la Selva

But until then, and until the Freestyle Academy reopens, it will be moving to a different, temporary location—namely, Flims, at the Prau la Selva sports facility. The Freestyle Academy team has come up with something very special for this: "A simple gym would be too boring. The nature of the Freestyle Academy calls for something more unusual," says Ivan Capaul, operations manager of the Freestyle Academy.

From July 2022, a huge circus tent will be the new home of the Freestyle Academy. From the vert ramp to the airbag, all facilities will be available in the temporary venue. A collaboration with Circus Knie has made this possible, and the Freestyle Academy team can count on the Knie team's many years of expertise to help with the construction. Construction work will begin at the end of March 2022.

Freestyle meets circus artistry

The circus tent, with a diameter of 44 meters and a height of 14 meters, not only offers space for well-known favorites such as the Vert Ramp, the Skate Bowl, and the Airbag with trampolines, but also artistic elements familiar from the circus are now part of the program: "The circus and freestyle themes appeal to young and old alike. The combination is unique and makes everyone's heart beat faster," says Reto Poltéra, member of the management team at the Weisse Arena Group and responsible for leisure and sports.

The rocksresort continues to grow

Two new rocksresort cubes, buildings L and M, are being built at the current location of the Freestyle Academy. There will be a variety of new apartments in different sizes. In addition, new parking spaces will be created, spread over two basement levels. These will be connected to the existing parking garage for buildings I, J, and K and will also be accessible through its entrance. The parking garage is scheduled to open in spring 2024. The apartments will be ready for occupancy in spring 2025.
