Laax, December 15, 2021. The start of the peak season is approaching, and with it the challenge of providing safe and easy catering for a large number of guests on the mountain. A digital catering concept is set to remedy this situation in LAAX and ensure sufficient distancing and safety in restaurants. LAAX is also taking an important step into the future in the takeaway sector and is now focusing on reusable tableware in cooperation with a Swiss company.
To ensure that guests can be safely catered for on the mountain during the 2021/22 winter season, LAAX is switching from self-service to semi-service in its largest self-service restaurants. Digital tools such as the destination's own INSIDE LAAX app are making the new process possible. LAAX is also delighted to be significantly reducing single-use tableware with immediate effect and offering guests reusable solutions from the Swiss company "reCIRCLE."
Safe dining experience thanks to digital process
At the former self-service restaurants Vorab, Nagens, GALAAXY, and Segneshütte, guests no longer have to queue at counters in the self-service area. They simply order their food from their seats using the INSIDE LAAX app or at ordering machines, and it is served directly to their tables. The dishes are also no longer prepared on the mountain, but in a central kitchen in the valley. Centralized preparation not only ensures consistent high quality in the aforementioned restaurants, it also contributes to LAAX's sustainability goals: more precise planning of ingredients reduces food waste and cuts CO2 emissions from food transport by 25%.
Cooperation with the Swiss company "reCIRCLE"
Since 2010, the winter sports resort has been implementing measures and targets for the careful use of natural resources with its specially developed "Greenstyle" sustainability concept. One of these goals is to adhere to the ecological cycle 100% and to reduce waste in the catering industry by half by 2023 – this also includes broken porcelain. Thanks to high-quality, durable reusable tableware made of 70% plastic and 30% glass fibers, LAAX is moving a step closer to this goal.
Jeannette Morath, CEO and founder of the award-winning Swiss reusable company "reCIRCLE," is delighted with this system change and says: "The ski resort is making an important contribution and taking on a pioneering role." The new reusable tableware is completely vegan and manufactured in Switzerland. It is now being used in the four largest self-service restaurants mentioned above – for takeaway, but also for consumption at the table. The reusable tableware is also to be introduced in other restaurants on an ongoing basis.

New quality label for LAAX restaurants
Greenstyle goes even further: the new "LAAX ALWAYS TASTY" label brings together values and measures designed to improve the LAAX dining experience in the long term and in a sustainable manner – for the benefit of guests, but also for the environment. Greater emphasis is being placed on offering appropriate options for guests with food intolerances and those following vegan and vegetarian diets. When it comes to food procurement, the focus is consistently on local, regional, and Swiss producers.
