Renovation of the Freestyle Academy

The Freestyle Academy LAAX is the original. As Europe's first indoor freestyle hall, it offers fun and action on a wide variety of elements across around 1,300 square meters – all year round and regardless of the weather. Since December 2010, freestyle tricks can be learned here in a safe environment. Now the popular freestyle hall is getting a makeover and will reopen on June 15, 2019, after a two-month renovation phase.

The existing facilities, consisting of the impressive kicker (Snow Flex), a bouldering wall, the skate bowl, and several trampolines, have proven popular with visitors and become well established. But freestyle wouldn't be freestyle, and LAAX wouldn't be LAAX, without constant development and the courage to innovate. The former location of Snow Flex will now be home to a facility for a completely new discipline: parkour. The large area freed up by the removal of Snow Flex can thus be used to expand the range of activities on offer, making it even more varied. None other than parkour legend Joel Eggimann from Vienna was hired to plan the facility.

The renovation not only creates space for a new discipline, three additional ramps, and three more trampolines: where the Snow Flex landing bag currently stands, a vert ramp will be built—a real rarity in Switzerland. The vert ramp is not only a prestigious feature, but also the original form of freestyle, which is deeply rooted in LAAX. The vert ramp rounds off the impressive indoor and outdoor skate facilities in LAAX. The expertise of Andreas Schützenberger from IOU Ramps is being relied upon for the planning and construction.

After two months of renovation work, the Freestyle Academy will reopen its doors onSaturday, June 15, 2019. Take a look behind the scenes of the renovation and see some exciting impressions in the renovation diary.
