Postponement of the grand opening of the FlemXpress in Flims

Due to various logistical and construction challenges, the opening of the new Segnes–Cassons section and thus the full opening of the FlemXpress has been rescheduled for the start of the 2025/26 winter season.

During the fall of 2024, significant progress was made on construction thanks to favorable weather conditions, particularly with the concreting of the main pier. This meant that most of the station could be assembled on caissons during the winter of 24/25. Nevertheless, the complexity of the construction work, especially at this altitude and under the challenging conditions, requires careful planning to ensure smooth commissioning.

The original goal of opening in late summer or fall 2025 is not realistic due to the work required. The focus is on ensuring rail operations during the summer and fall vacations, which is why a later opening in the fall would not be practical.

Further construction planning and commissioning

A particularly challenging aspect is routing the cable from Nagens Sura through the station to Cassons. During this process, the Nagens Sura and Segnes sections will have to be closed for around 10 days. To avoid disruption during the summer holidays, the cable pull is planned for immediately after the summer holidays, starting on August 18, 2025. During this time, sections 3 and 4 will be closed for one weekend. However, sections 1 and 2 will remain in operation.

Sisag AG plans to commission the fifth section on September 29, 2025. During this phase, it will not be possible to exit at Segnes due to testing being carried out by Sisag AG in the station. However, guests will be able to use sections 1 and 2 and travel from Startgels to Nagens Sura without stopping.

From calendar week 43, or more precisely from October 20, 2025, the entire FlemXpress will be closed to guests, as sections 1 to 5 will be commissioned during this period. The official start of operations for the fifth section is scheduled for the beginning of December.

With improvements already made and valuable experience gained from last season, we can look forward with confidence to the planned grand opening in early December.
