On Friday, March 13, 2020, the Swiss government closed all mountain railways in Switzerland. For safety reasons, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The decision was followed by a hectic weekend for the Weisse Arena Group. Guests had to be informed. Urgent clean-up work had to be carried out at top speed, the cable cars were garaged as quickly as possible, and those who could were transferred to working from home. Then Monday came: the stress was over, the rocksresort was deserted, and the cable cars stood still. Dozens of employees no longer had any work to do. The abrupt end to the winter season left a vacuum, an almost eerie emptiness.
Lend a helping hand
However, infrastructure and personnel were available and needed to be utilized. Therefore, ways were sought to fill this void, to keep people meaningfully occupied, and to contribute as much as possible to the general, extraordinary situation. Together with the surrounding communities of the Flims Laax Falera destination, assistance concepts were developed to support the Red Cross, Spitex, and people in the risk group. For example, a transport service was offered, lunches were cooked, and errands were run.
LAAX Delivery
Even beyond providing assistance, creative thinking continued. The idea of a delivery service for all residents of the communities of Flims, Laax, and Falera quickly emerged, and LAAX Delivery was born. The service offers delicacies from Nooba, Camino, and Burgers, as well as a selection of staple foods. Deliveries are made directly to the front door. LAAX Delivery has been met with a remarkable response, with almost 500 hot meals delivered to front doors in the destination in the first month alone. The feedback has been positive. Some people miss fries on the menu and individual Kaiserschmarrn, but otherwise, according to the survey, customers seem to be more than satisfied. One thing is clear: even after the coronavirus crisis, we want to keep the delivery service!
