The "bike to work" challenge has come to an end with a new record: with 7,133 kilometers cycled, the Weisse Arena Group and Flims Laax Falera Management AG have far exceeded last year's record of 6,509 kilometers. This means that the 11 participating teams saved around 1,027 kilogramsof CO2 during May and June. Across Switzerland as a whole, last year's total of 16,000,000 kilometers was also significantly exceeded, with 17,510,088 kilometers covered.
43 participants from the Weisse Arena Group and Flims Laax Falera Management AG gave up their cars for two months and came to work by bike or e-bike. Leading the way right to the end was the "il Tschaler" team with Amanda Krüttli, Reto Fry, Markus Freiburghaus, and Renato Nigg: they alone managed to clock up 1,477 kilometers! In second place was the "Chixxs on bike" team with 947 kilometers, just ahead of the "Flims retour" team with 942 kilometers.
Members of these teams also lead the individual rankings: Reto Fry (il Tschaler) is in first place with 665 kilometers, Markus Freiburghaus (il Tschaler) is in second place with 551 kilometers, and Madlaina Casty (Chixxs on bike) is in third place with 489 kilometers.
Regardless of whether they made it onto the podium or not, all participants played their part in reducingCO2emissions for a short time and doing something good for the environment. And who knows—maybe one or two of them will leave their cars at home more often in the future and hop on their bikes instead.
As a reward, there will be a delicious dinner, and all participants are invited. In the spring, the team at the Riders Hotel treated the hard-working bikers of 2018 to its vegetarian specialties in a cozy atmosphere. The date and location for this year's dinner will be announced at a later date.
