On Thursday, April 4, 2024, the legendary ski and snowboard race for WAG employees took place once again. With perfect slope conditions and a precisely set course, the race was held at Crap Sogn Gion. Afterwards, a delicious dinner awaited all attendees at the GALAAXY. The traditional celebration is WAG's internal end-of-season party and was once again a successful event.

Around 112 employees stood at the starting gates at Crap Sogn Gion with their race numbers and skis or snowboards. Employees from the mountain railways, catering, the LAAX School, marketing, and various other areas of the Weisse Arena Group took part in the race. They competed against each other in teams of four in a parallel slalom and gave it their all. Those who did not take part in the race cheered on their colleagues and created a lively atmosphere.
Popular racing format with excitement
The format of the ski and snowboard race is legendary within the company and extremely popular: four parallel slaloms are set out side by side on the Crap Sogn Gion slope towards Alp Dado. The LAAX School team led by Hampi Casutt and many volunteers are responsible for ensuring that the race runs smoothly. When the start numbers are handed out, all participants are divided into groups of four. It doesn't matter what snow sports equipment you use: skis, snowboard, or telemark skis. Each group has different levels of ability, which ensures fairness, but also action and excitement.
A total of 28 teams took part this year. The race started at 5 p.m., with the first four runners competing against each other. As soon as the first team member reached the finish line, the second team member started, and so on. The fastest teams advanced round after round until, at the end, the last remaining teams competed for the podium places.
Dinner and awards ceremony
All that action calls for some serious sustenance: after the race, everyone headed to GALAAXY, where a delicious dinner awaited all employees – whether fans or race participants . 200 employees were present to toast the past winter season together as darkness slowly fell outside. After dessert, the top five teams were honored at the award ceremony and got to pick out some awesome prizes. As the evening slowly drew to a close, we took the gondola back down to the valley.
A big thank you goes to everyone who organized this event and ensured a very successful end to the season, which I'm sure everyone who attended will look back on fondly.
