Giulia's working day begins at 7:45 a.m. First, she makes sure that all the clothes are neatly hung up. This is important to ensure that the store looks appealing and customers feel comfortable. She then prepares the cash register, checks the cash balance, and makes sure there is enough change available. Next, she turns on all the screens in the store. In the summer, she prepares mountain bikes that can be rented—the region is one of the most popular areas for mountain bikers. The shop opens at 8:00 a.m., and the first customers are not long in coming.
Giulia's main task is to advise customers on their choice of sports equipment and to rent out equipment such as bikes in summer and skis and snowboards in winter. She enjoys direct contact with customers and is happy to help them find the right product. Bikes must be returned by 5:00 p.m. at the latest so that they can be thoroughly cleaned and repaired if necessary. This ensures that they are in perfect condition and can be used by the next customers without any problems. Finally, she settles the cash register, counts the day's takings and checks them. Finally, she cleans and tidies the sales area so that the shop is ready for the next day.
"I decided to do my apprenticeship at WAG because my sister did her training here and that's how I found out about the company," says Giulia, adding: "I'm also interested in the products we sell because they fit in with my hobbies. I am active in sports myself, so I can easily understand what our customers are looking for and need." What she particularly likes about her job is the contact with customers. She enjoys talking to different people and helping them make their selection. Selling various sporting goods comes easily to her because she believes in the products and is happy to recommend them.
"My apprenticeship stands out from others because of the unique location of our shop," says Giulia. LAAX Rental is part of the ski resort and is located right next to the mountain railways at the valley station, right in the heart of the action. This proximity to nature and to the sporting activities of customers brings a special dynamic to her everyday work. "The shop is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but I always arrive 15 minutes early to get everything ready," says Giulia. Since the shop is open seven days a week, she also works on weekends and has weekdays off. This requires flexibility and often means working on days when others have time off. She currently works at LAAX Rental in Flims, but she has also worked in the shop in LAAX.
Giulia plans to stay with the company for the time being because she enjoys her work here. However, she would like to train as a paramedic at some point. "I'm very interested in this profession because I like helping people and can keep a cool head in emergency situations," says Giulia, adding: "Overall, I am very happy that I chose WAG as my training company. Not only have I received a solid education here, but I have also gained a lot of valuable experience that will certainly benefit me in my future career."
