FlemX: The project is now complete
Fifth Section, new name, new chapter

What began as FlemXpress is now FlemX, and all five sections have been in operation since December 20, 2025.
With the opening of the fifth and final section from Segnes to Ils Cugns on the Cassons, WAG’s largest mobility project has been completed, reconnecting Cassons to the region via mountain railway after more than ten years.
The railway does more than just connect towns: it provides direct, year-round access to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site “Tektonikarena Sardona,” from the valley up to over 2,500 meters.

The X stands for Experience

The name change from FlemXpress to FlemX is more than just a rebranding. The “X” stands for “Experience”—and sums up what the railway is meant to deliver: not just transportation, but a mountain experience from the very first minute to the very last. Each of the five sections winds through its own unique landscape, from the villages of Flims and Laax up into the high-alpine tranquility of the Casson Massif and into the heart of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
The new name applies to the entire rail network. The final section—from Segnes to Ils Cugns—closes the gap and makes FlemX a continuous connection between the valley and the summit region.

Construction in Alpine Terrain: What the Project Has Accomplished

The fifth section was the most challenging. Building at an elevation of over 2,000 meters, in a world-class protected area, with short construction windows and alpine weather conditions—this presents different challenges than any lowland construction site. To mark the completion of the project, WAG published a final installment of the construction diary documenting these challenges: how materials were transported, how construction was carried out in the rock, and how nature was protected—all while a modern infrastructure was being built.
The construction diary is more than just a communication tool—it is a testament to the complexity behind a cable car that guests take for granted.

What FlemX Means for the Destination

FlemX is fundamentally changing access to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Anyone staying in Flims or Laax today can travel from their doorstep to Sardona without a car.
FlemX is also strategically important for WAG: The railway connects the destination’s various activity areas and enables year-round operations. Hiking, biking, skiing, and nature experiences—all of this is accessible with FlemX as the backbone, and Greenstyle at its heart.
