Sunny weather, lots of fun, and a lively atmosphere—that sums up the 30th ski and snowboard race for employees perfectly. On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, the legendary race took place at Crap Sogn Gion in ideal conditions. Afterwards, there was a delicious dinner at GALAAXY. The traditional celebration is WAG's internal end-of-season party and was once again a successful event.
A record number of 128 employees lined up at the starting gates at Crap Sogn Gion with their skis and snowboards. Snow sports instructors from the LAAX School, employees from the mountain railways, restaurants, hotels, and many other areas took part in the race. They gave their all in teams of four, competing against each other in a parallel slalom. Those who weren't racing cheered on their teammates and enjoyed the evening sun with good music and fine drinks.
Exciting race format
The format of the ski and snowboard race is legendary within WAG and extremely popular: four parallel slaloms are set out side by side on the slope from Crap Sogn Gion towards Alp Dado. The LAAX School Team led by Hampi Casutt and many volunteers are responsible for ensuring that the race runs smoothly. When the start numbers are handed out, all participants are divided into groups of four. It doesn't matter what snow sports equipment you use: skis, snowboard, or telemark skis. Each group is fairly mixed with different levels of ability, which ensures plenty of action and excitement.
A total of 32 teams took part this year. The starting signal was given at 5 p.m., and the first four teams raced toward Alp Dado at high speed. As soon as the first team member reached the finish line, the second team member started, and so on. The best teams advanced round after round until, in the end, only the last four teams were left to battle it out for the podium places. The beaming winners were four female participants who prevailed with a lot of girl power.
Dinner and a cozy get-together
After the race, all employees enjoyed a delicious dinner at GALAAXY. Around 350 employees toasted the past winter season together as the sun set behind the mountain peaks. After dessert, the four best teams were honored at the award ceremony and presented with fantastic prizes. Afterwards, everyone took the gondola down to the valley, where the celebrations continued into the night.
A big thank you to everyone
Many thanks to everyone who made the evening such a success. In particular, the LAAX School team, the GALAAXY team, the organizers from the People & Culture team, the MICE team, and the railway employees. As always, it was a wonderful evening with lots of great stories.
