Every year, Pro Velo Switzerland's nationwide "bike to work" campaign motivates thousands of people to cycle to work in May and June. The Weisse Arena Group was once again fully involved this year. Thirty-seven employees in ten teams covered an impressive 8,291 kilometers together, saving 1,194 kilograms of CO2.
The "bike to work" challenge is a fixed part of the calendar for employees of the Weisse Arena Group. They have been taking part in this sustainable campaign for 14 years. The aim of the challenge is to raise awareness of environmentally friendly mobility and offer a healthy alternative to driving. This year, 37 employees regularly used bicycles or e-bikes to commute to work, thereby making an important contribution to climate protection.
Results of the best teams
The team "Nicht aufgeben" (Don't give up) with Patrick Gächter, Reto Fry, and Toni Kalberer was particularly successful, taking first place and covering an incredible 3,008 kilometers. Last year's winning team, "Jerry Racing" (Remo Schöpfer, Ursina Deller, Simone Oestreicher, and Mia Gloor), came in second, followed by "Portalavandas" (Marc Schulz, Markus Freiburghaus, Seraina Kälin, and Freddy Dehmel) in third place. These teams were out cycling almost every day, despite many rainy days.
The "Don't give up" team also took the podium places in the individual rankings. Patrick Gächter covered a total of 1,516 kilometers by bike and won by a clear margin ahead of Reto Fry with 840 kilometers, followed by Toni Kalberer, who covered 652 kilometers. Tina Gerber and Roger Heid also each won a prize in the national prize draw.
Over 4,000 tons of CO2 saved
This year saw another record number of cyclists taking part: 109,090 people from 3,840 different companies pedaled their way to work, which is 200 more companies than last year. In total, over 27 million kilometers were covered, saving 4,000 tons of CO2 .
Congratulations to all participants in the Weisse Arena Group!
