Action at Crap Sogn Gion: 33rd Ski and Snowboard Race for WAG Employees

It was a stormy day on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Crap Sogn Gion. But despite the giant slalom gates blowing in the wind and red noses, some 216 wind- and weather-resistant WAG members didn’t miss the chance to attend the legendary ski and snowboard race for employees of the Weisse Arena Group some as racers, others as spectators. Braving the storm and the cold, the employees held out at Crap Sogn Gion, cheering on the racers and pushing themselves to the limit until the winners were determined and the event transitioned into a group dinner at the Galaaxy. This traditional event serves as the WAG’s internal end-of-season celebration and once again delivered pure spectacle.

Around 96 employees stood ready at the starting gates at Crap Sogn Gion with their skis and snowboards. Ski and snowboard instructors from the LAAX School, employees from the mountain railways, the SOS team, the marketing department, and many other areas took part in the race. Competing in teams of four, they faced off in a parallel slalom and gave it their all. Those who didn’t race themselves cheered on the competitors and clapped their hands enthusiastically not least to keep warm.

Popular racing format with plenty of excitement

The format of the ski and snowboard race is legendary within WAG and extremely popular: four parallel slalom courses are marked out side by side on the Crap Sogn Gion slope heading toward Alp Dado. The LAAX School team and many volunteers are responsible for ensuring the race runs smoothly. When race numbers are handed out, all participants are divided into groups of four. It doesn’t matter which snow sport you’re competing in—whether on skis or a snowboard. Each group includes participants of varying skill levels, ensuring fairness, action, and excitement.

A total of 24 teams participated this year. The race began at 5:00 p.m., and the first four runners charged off aggressively. As soon as the first team member crossed the finish line, the second team member started, and so on. The top teams advanced round after round until, in the end, only the final four teams were left competing for the podium spots.

Dinner and awards ceremony

After the race, all staff members enjoyed a well-deserved dinner at Galaaxy. During the meal, they discussed the race, toasted the past winter season together, and enjoyed the end of the day on the mountain. After dessert, the best teams were honored at the awards ceremony and presented with prizes. This year, the teachers from the LAAX School were unbeatable, and as a result, the top three spots were taken exclusively by employees from that department. We’re already looking forward to the rematch next year!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who organized this event and made for a very successful end-of-season celebration that everyone in attendance will surely look back on fondly. Special thanks to the LAAX School team, the Galaaxy team, the organizers from the People & Culture department, and the lift staff.
