Laax, July 9, 2021. After around a year of construction, the time has come – the "Senda dil Dragun," the world's longest treetop walkway, is celebrating its opening weekend. The walkway will be open to visitors from Sunday, July 11, 2021. Stretching 1.56 kilometers and reaching heights of between two and 28 meters, it offers a unique nature experience for the whole family.
On Friday, July 9, 2021, the first invited guests were given the opportunity to visit the trail. After a speech by the well-known Graubünden storyteller Linard Bardill, the ribbon was cut by State Councilor Marcus Caduff, Laax Mayor Franz Gschwend, and Markus Wolf, CEO of the Weisse Arena Group.
In addition, the district forester and project manager, Maurus Cavigelli, as well as engineer Clemens Arpagaus and architect Reto Durisch were on site to provide guests with background information on the construction and the project.
Marcus Caduff, Member of the Graubünden Cantonal Government
After walking along the Senda dil Dragun, State Councilor Marcus Caduff addressed the invited guests with the following words: "The treetop walkway reflects the spirit of the times and a social trend toward leisure activities in nature. The canton supported the project because it is the first treetop walk in Graubünden and, above all, because it is a central element of the value chain. This means that all companies in the destination can benefit from it and generate added value themselves. The creation of snow-independent offerings also contributes to the diversification of tourism in Graubünden."
Franz Gschwend, Mayor of Laax
"The treetop walk is a tourist attraction in the canton of Graubünden that blends in perfectly with our natural surroundings. Planned and built according to sustainability criteria, the treetop walk can be considered a showcase project," says Franz Gschwend, mayor of Laax. With the trail, the municipality is investing in infrastructure for sustainable year-round tourism: "In recent years, we have undertaken targeted projects to increase the attractiveness of the residential and business location," says Gschwend. He estimates the value creation potential at around five million Swiss francs.
Markus Wolf, CEO of the Weisse Arena Group
"I am certain that our locals, second home owners, and valued guests will greatly enjoy the Senda dil Dragun. It is a unique project that we were able to realize in such a short time. This fills us with pride," says Markus Wolf, adding: "The two new towers on the trail are truly new landmarks for the municipality of Laax."
Maurus Cavigelli, district forester and project manager
From the outset, district forester Maurus Cavigelli oversaw the project as project manager, from the initial idea to its implementation: "The creation of the treetop walkway was an extraordinary challenge for everyone involved. There were a number of hurdles to overcome in terms of planning and building permits. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of everyone involved, we are now able to open this special attraction. We wish all visitors wonderful views of the forest and landscape from an elevated perspective."
