KIDS LAAX OPEN 2025: Young freestyle talents show off their skills at Crap Sogn Gion

Laax, March 11, 2025. Last weekend, the popular KIDS LAAX OPEN took place for the sixth time. This year, over 396 children and young people from 18 countries took part in Switzerland's largest freestyle competition for young talent. The promising freestyle youngsters showed off their tricks in the disciplines of snowboard slopestyle and halfpipe, as well as freeski slopestyle and halfpipe.

Hundreds of children and teenagers gathered at Crap Sogn Gion from Friday, March 7 to Sunday, March 9, 2025 for this year's KIDS LAAX OPEN. The counterpart to the FIS World Cup LAAX OPEN for five to 17-year-olds took place for the sixth time last weekend. At the event, which is also part of the Swiss Snowboard Tour and the Swiss Freeski Tour, participants competed against their peers for three days – some with sporting ambitions, others simply for fun.

With style over rails and high up in the halfpipe

In spring-like conditions, the contest kicked off on Friday with the U15 and U18 categories in the freeski and snowboard slopestyle disciplines. Participants in these categories had the opportunity to collect FIS points, which qualify them to compete in higher-ranked FIS competitions, such as the European Cup. For the younger categories, things got serious on Saturday with the freeski slopestyle discipline taking place in the ils Plauns Snowpark, which was specially prepared for the KIDS LAAX OPEN, and the snowboard halfpipe in the Superpipe at the NoName Snowpark, which, at 200 meters long, is the largest halfpipe in the world. The competition concluded on Sunday with the snowboard slopestyle and freeski halfpipe disciplines.

International field of participants

The young freestylers took to the start line full of motivation, demonstrating courage and, last but not least, a great deal of skill. The international field of participants was also impressive: children and young people traveled from Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, and many other countries to take part in the KIDS LAAX OPEN. Athletes from the local Freestyle Academy LAAX base secured places on the podium in various categories and disciplines. This is particularly pleasing for Ivan Capaul, head of the academy and co-initiator of the KIDS LAAX OPEN: "Together with our coaches, we have invested a lot of heart and soul into our freestyle development programs over the last few years. This work is now bearing fruit and a strong generation of freestylers is growing up."
