Worn, loved and now saved: The free Cloth Repair project, supported by the Greenstyle Foundation, took place once again at the Riders Hotel. The aim of the initiative is to give damaged clothing a second – or even third – life.
The special thing about it: the service is free for everyone. A team of seamstresses set up their own small workshop in the hotel, equipped with everything they needed to repair a wide variety of garments.
A total of 157 items of clothing were repaired and saved from the rubbish bin. Winter sports clothing was particularly popular at the sewing station, making up the majority of the repaired items at 67%. No wonder, as this clothing is particularly exposed to heavy wear and tear. So it’s all the nicer when they can be used for another season instead of being thrown away.
A look at the repair record:
- 13 metres of torn seams were re-sewn and resealed to make them waterproof, which is important for protection and functionality.
- Two soft toys were given a new leg, two ears, an eye and fresh stuffing.
- 22 Velcro fasteners were replaced or re-sewn.
- 67 badges were sewn, ironed or glued on, small details with a big impact.
- Three pairs of snowboard boots were repaired and prepared for another season.
- Six new items of clothing and rucksacks with production faults were reworked and thus saved from disposal.
- 14 zip slides were replaced, a common defect that can be repaired quickly.
And of course it remains the classic repair: the right trouser pocket of the ski trousers. As in previous years, it was once again the most frequently mended part of winter sports clothing – a funny detail that shows just how much wear and tear is put on clothing when snowboarding and skiing.
