Reconstruction of the Freestyle Academy

The Freestyle Academy LAAX is the original. As Europe’s first indoor freestyle hall, it offers fun and action on a wide variety of elements on around 1,200 square metres – all year round and regardless of the weather. Since December 2010, freestyle tricks can be learned here playfully in a safe environment. Now the popular freestyle hall is getting a makeover and will reopen on 15 June 2019 after a two-month renovation phase.

The previous offer, consisting of the impressive kicker facility (Snow Flex), a boulder wall, the skate bowl and several trampolines, has proven itself and established itself with the visitors. But freestyle wouldn’t be freestyle and LAAX wouldn’t be LAAX without constant further development and the courage to innovate. At the former location of the Snow Flex, a facility for a completely new discipline is being created: Parkour. The large area freed up by the dismantling of the Snow Flex can be used to expand the range of activities and make it even more varied. No less a person than parkour legend Joel Eggimann from Vienna was hired for the planning.

The conversion not only creates space for a new discipline, three additional ramps and three more trampolines: Where the Snow Flex landing bag currently stands, a Vert Ramp is being built – a real rarity in Switzerland. The Vert Ramp is on the one hand a prestige object, but on the other hand it is also the original form of freestyle, which is strongly rooted in LAAX. The Vert Ramp rounds off the considerable indoor and outdoor skate facilities in LAAX. The expertise of Andreas Schützenberger from IOU Ramps was called upon for the planning and construction.

After a two-month renovation phase, the Freestyle Academy will reopen its doors on Saturday, 15 June 2019. A look behind the scenes of the renovation and exciting impressions can be found in the renovation diary.
